Roughly fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers say they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state early analysis show the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; investigators are presently not aware of any harm in connection with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for information.
An important representative commented the attack rendered him stunned and had to be solved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he stated on online, referring to the murder of nine victims by a gunman aiming at people of immigrant origin in 2020.
