The minister explained that the ministry is “examining” Chinese vehicles within its fleets, but emphasised that safety is a issue in all modern vehicles.

Our department has a fleet of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones account for a very small number.
However whether you’re driving a vehicle from China or a non-Chinese car, what we’ve asked our people is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence technology into their car, not to have discussions at a secret classification in any kind of vehicle, due to the increasing risks of surveillance that exist in all automobile, to restrict those confidential talks in protected areas. This is a prudent and reasonable thing for everyone worried about safety.

After it was suggested that it would be prudent for the MoD to cease using every Chinese vehicles, Pollard replied: That is precisely what we are looking into at the present time.”

The revelation follows claims from Scandinavian countries have alerted the United Kingdom to the presence of dual-use shutdown mechanisms in Chinese electric buses, which could enable China to disable buses and cause disruption to transport systems.
